Purpose
The Digital Code of Practice sets out the best practices and expectations for digital service delivery in the BC Public Service. The code provides direction for public service employees and service providers on how to design, build, buy and run technology and digital services.
The Digital Code of Practice should be used to:
- Guide strategic planning, solution analysis and problem solving
- Evaluate the alignment of digital products or services with best practices
- Support decision making and prioritization in ministries and for the Deputy Ministers’
Committee on Digital and Data - Ensure a consistent and common understanding of terms, concepts and expectations
Overview
The Digital Code of Practice is an operational policy released by the Government Chief Information Officer.
This policy provides specific and actionable direction and guidance to support public service employees in working towards the ambitions of today’s BC Public Service, improving the quality of digital products and services and better meeting the needs and expectations of people who live in B.C.
The Digital Code of Practice is one of many resources guiding and supporting digital service delivery in the BC Public Service. The Code must be applied in conjunction with:
- The Digital Principles
- Applicable legislation, including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and
Information Management Act - The BC Public Service Standards of Conduct, Corporate Values and Oath of Employment
- Core policy, including Core Policy and Procedures Manual Chapter 12
- Supporting corporate policies and standards, including the Managing Government Information
Policy, Data Management Policy (PDF), Appropriate Use Policy (PDF), Information Security Policy and
Privacy Management and Accountability Policy (PDF)
Application
The Digital Code of Practice applies to employees and service providers of all ministries subject to the Core Policy and Procedures Manual.
