Connected Services BC: Who we are
Connected Services BC (CSBC) leads the work of connecting services across ministries to help people navigate life and business events. We connect the pieces behind the scenes so people and businesses in B.C. don’t have to.

How CSBC is organized
October 1, 2025 marked the beginning of our organization. CSBC brought together all former government information management branches, core ministry and sector IT teams, the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), and Service BC under one unified organization. This operating structure allows government to deliver services as one coordinated system.

Connecting services in government
CSBC’s work is built on four key foundations. Connected services need all four, not just one.
Governance
Clear, coordinated leadership and shared standards across ministries.
Policy and legislation
Modern laws and policies that enable data sharing while protecting privacy.
Common standards
Shared definitions so information means the same thing everywhere.
Technology
Connected and secure systems that do the heavy lifting for people in B.C.
What we support
CSBC aims to enable people and businesses in B.C. by supporting them in three major areas:
Access
We help people reach services through the channel that works best for them, on their own or with help from staff. Trusted identity verification and securely exchanged data allow Service BC to be the single front door for hundreds of services across the province, online and in person.
Delivery
We build and run the connected service experiences people rely on. For example:
- Everyday life events like registering a birth, changing an address or accessing health records
- Human supports like accessing income assistance, legal supports and tenancy resolution
- Economic opportunities like workforce support and approvals to use land, or resources for projects, startups and complex approvals
Direction
We help establish shared policies, standards and technical direction across government.
How we work with ministries
Our work is a shared effort with all ministries. CSBC helps ministries work together through shared technology, cybersecurity services and digital standards. We favour shared, reusable platforms over custom built solutions for individual programs. We follow consistent standards for data, architecture, and cybersecurity, and we perform user research to ensure equitable and connected service experiences.
Ministries lead the programs and business processes behind those experiences, and retain accountability for policy, legislation and outcomes. They participate at every level, contributing deep program expertise and frontline knowledge from strategic direction to day-to-day delivery. This approach creates clarity, reduces duplication and makes it easier to get work done together. The knowledge, skills and partnerships built across the BC Public Service remain central to our work.
