AWS landing zone services
B.C. product teams have access to over 200 services through the Government of Canada’s Cloud Framework Agreements. The latest list of services on the Cloud Framework Agreements is always growing.
To use a service, go to the B.C. government’s landing zone in AWS. Do not buy a service by clicking “Add to Cart” on the Government of Canada’s webpage.
Compatibility
Certain AWS services, evaluated by the Government of Canada, may not be compatible with the B.C. government’s landing zone. This is because of the security controls included in our secure hosting environment for AWS applications.
Your team must perform a functionality test to confirm that a service works with your app in the B.C. government landing zone.
Security of services
The Government of Canada has assessed security, compliance, reliability and cost savings based on its specific needs. The Cloud Pathfinder Team, in consultation with Information Security Branches across government, has determined that these federal security assessments are sufficient to meet the province’s own corporate security standard.
Review the Government of Canada Cloud Security Risk Management Approach and Procedures for more information.
Privacy and security assessments
You must complete a Security Threat Risk Assessment (STRA) and Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) to use an AWS service in your app. Your ministry’s Information Security Analyst may review the Government of Canada’s previous assessment to understand relevant controls for a service and align with ministry requirements.
Using AWS services that haven’t been assessed by the Government of Canada
You may add an AWS service into your app, even if the Government of Canada hasn’t assessed it. In this case, make sure your Security Threat Risk Assessment (STRA) and Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) include more detailed information to identify use case gaps.
